New fast-acting edibles reinvents your cannabis experience

I love edibles as they really get into your body and feel great. The downside with edibles is they can take up to 2 hours to kick in and can last anywhere from 4 to 8 hours or more, depending on how strong your dose was. This is great for when you want it to last that long but we don’t always want to feel THC for hours on end, enter nanoemulsions.

Nanoemulsions explained

Cannabinoids are fat soluble which makes it difficult for the body to absorb them. Nanoemulsions are simply very small emulsion- think of shaking up a salad dressing, the harder it’s shaken, the smaller the droplets and therefore it mixes better and stays together longer. Ultrasound waves are used to create smaller droplets allowing for better bioavailability and absorption.

Nanomemulsions means you get a cannabis edible that can be absorbed in water, is fast-acting- onset is around 5 to 15 minutes, and has a shorter duration- around an hour, similar to inhaling cannabis.

Fast acting edibles on the market

As of writing this article (Jan. 2021), there’s only a couple of products on the market advertised as fast acting. However expect to see more on the Canadian market soon.

(Update March 6 2021)- many of the beverages on the market are fast-acting and now there’s dissolvable strips and there’s now fast-acting gummies, check the reviews section, for fast-acting edibles.

Ripple by TGOD dissolvable powder in the 5mg dose. Image shows the packet of powder dissolved into a glass of water.

This product by TGod is one of my favourite products, it’s a dissolvable powder that can be added to any food or beverage. It doesn’t have much of a taste, mostly it tastes like cannabis but it’s mild. However the powder itself is tart and has a mild cannabis taste, it may not work well sprinkled on food unless the food has a strong flavour already.

I find it kicks in after about 10 minutes and lasts about an hour. I love adding it to a soda however I can see this working well in a cup of coffee or tea or bowl of soup. Personally I prefer it in liquid however you can add it to anything. This a great option for anyone looking for a versatile edible that won’t knock you on your butt for hours on end.

Edibles without the commitment

Expect to see (once the pandemic is over) more cannabis infused dining with fast acting edibles also more beverages. It just makes more sense to have an edible that feels similar to smoking a joint or using a vaporizer. It’s not as powerful as a normal edible, doesn’t last as long and works faster. It’s easy to over do it with THC however with fast acting edibles, you won’t have to worry about that as much as you’ll feel it within minutes and therefore you’ll have better control over your experience.

  1. Is the sync spray available on the rec or the medical side? Their website has it as “Sync wellness” so I wasn’t sure if that meant medical. (Tried looking at the shops I know and don’t see it on their website)
